Russ Weeks: 'It's enough to make you scream'
Weeks-Manchin going national on CSPAN
JOE MANCHIN
RUSS WEEKS
Tonight's first face-off between Gov. Joe Manchin and his GOP challenger, former state Sen. Russ Weeks, will be broadcast live on CSPAN-2.
The national cable public affairs channel added the event to its lineup over the weekend. The event is sponsored by the West Virginia Broadcasters Association and will be moderated by Hoppy Kercheval, host of "Talkline" on the MetroNews radio network.
The debate gets underway at 7 p.m. from the Clay Center in Charleston. In addition to CSPAN, the confrontation will be carried live by several TV stations around the state, as well as live on MetroNews radio stations.
Weeks met Sunday with a national crew from ABC news, which was gathering footage for a future broadcast.
(Press Release) Attorney General Candidate Dan Greear will hand deliver a letter to Legislative Manager Aaron Allred, House Speaker Richard Thompson and Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin during interim meetings this weekend demanding an investigation into six months of missing records in Attorney General Darrell McGraw’s office.
Greear is also demanding the Attorney General’s office turn over the records requested in a FOIA request by The State Journal.  He referred to an October 9, 2008 article in the State Journal and comments by Attorney General’s Office Comptroller Joe Clay.
In response to a simple FOIA request of where Consumer Protection Division money has been spent, Comptroller Clay stated the following:
"There's just not a print out of who (recipients of Consumer Protection Division money) it was paid to," said Attorney General's Office Comptroller Joe Clay, about the budgetary request. "I'm having to go through books and books of information to get what you're asking for, and it takes time to pull out, copy and put back.
"There's six months that for whatever reason somebody's misplaced."
“This is a shocking admission of ineptitude and the Legislative auditors need to launch an immediate investigation,” Greear said.  “I will ask the leadership of the Legislature and the Legislative manager to step in and seize the money currently in the Consumer Protection Fund until a full investigation can take place.”
Greear added, “The Comptroller of the AG’s office has stated that six months worth of spending records are gone.  Not only was there shoddy recordkeeping of McGraw’s political handouts, there seems to be huge swaths of time where we don’t even know how our taxpayers’ money was spent.  This is a symptom of a broken system and an Attorney General who thumbs his nose at the taxpayers and at the Legislature.”
Greear blasted the lack of oversight over the Attorney General’s accounts and demanded McGraw immediately discontinue spending until the Legislature can investigate. “McGraw’s antics have come home to roost.  He has used the Consumer Protection Division as a personal slush fund and his own Comptroller, the person who is supposed to know where the money goes, has admitted six months of records have vanished.  The Legislature must find out if criminal activity has taken place or if there is simply shoddy management of the taxpayer money used as McGraw’s slush fund. This is a shameful display of arrogance and incompetence.”
Greear continues traveling to all 55 counties to promote his message. His ad campaign, ‘Proven Leader, Positive Change” continues this week across the state.

Sobonya leading coalition of local lawmakers taking a stand on issue of illegal immigration
(Press Release) Pennsylvania State Representative and State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI) founder Daryl Metcalfe and a coalition of West Virginia state lawmakers led by Delegate Kelli Sobonya will host a Capitol rally today to advance reform legislation designed to address America’s ongoing illegal alien invasion at the state government level.
The event will take place today at 11:30 a.m. on the Capitol steps.
Other West Virginia lawmakers and members of SLLI who will speak on this issue include Senator Andy McKenzie and Delegates Craig Blair, Linda Sumner, Walter Duke, and Carol Miller. Also, Vice Commander Kenneth Smith of The American Legion, Department of West Virginia will speak to about the legion's position on illegal immigration.
"I applaud Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, for his dedication to this important issue. As the first West Virginia House Member to join this national network of state legislators, I urge all lawmakers representing West Virginia to join State Legislators for Legal Immigration," said Delegate Kelli Sobonya, R-Cabell. "It is frustrating waiting for Congress to address this important issue of illegal immigration with their lack of securing our national borders and making it less attractive for those to come to our country illegally. I was pleased that the WV Legislature passed recent legislation that increases the penalties on those who hire undocumented workers. However, there is more to be done."
Lawmakers from 31 state legislatures, or 60 percent of the nation, have now signed on as members of this national coalition that is dedicated to the mission of protecting American lives, personal liberties, property and jobs from the clear and present dangers of illegal immigration.  Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are urged to join this effort.
Rep. Metcalfe will share his report, "Invasion Pennyslvania" and will be on hand to recruit additional West Virginia lawmakers to join State Legislators of Legal Immigration.

NASCAR legend Richard Petty endorses McCain
(Press Release) McCain-Palin 2008 has announced that Richard Petty, widely known as the greatest driver in NASCAR history, is endorsing John McCain for president. Petty announced his endorsement at Saturday's Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
"What we need right now in these uncertain times is a steady hand on the wheel -- a leader we can trust to put country first, ahead of politics," Petty said. "John McCain has always done that, and if you need proof, think about the sacrifices he made for America. I don't think there is any question that John McCain is a proud American and he has done more to better America than anyone.
"John McCain has a plan to get our economy back on track not only for the folks here in North Carolina but also nationwide. He understands that higher taxes will only make things worse and he'll support small businesses and create jobs. He will get us on the road to energy independence and give our troops what they need to succeed in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm proud to support John McCain for president."
Petty won 200 races during his career, a NASCAR record, and won a record seven Winston Cup championships. He won the Daytona 500 seven times, also a record, and won 27 races in 1967 alone.
Other participants in the McCain-Palin events at Lowe's Motor Speedway included Cindy McCain, former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer, country music star Cowboy Troy and Doug McCain, son of John McCain. Team owners Jack Roush and Joe Gibbs served as Mrs. McCain's hosts.
Most telling Obama debate is not one he's had yet with McCain
Syndicated columnist Terence Jeffrey has penned an article detailing a past debate in which Barack Obama made clear his extremist position on the abortion issue.
In fact, Obama coined a unique term, referring to a baby born alive in spite of an abortion attempt as being "temporarily alive."
The article describes Obama's opposition to a bill in the Illinois legislature designed to protect babies who were born alive in spite of the intention that they die after something called an "induced labor abortion."
Obama revealed his frankly frightening callousness toward babies born alive under the procedure. Read the column for yourself here.
