REPUBLICAN OF THE YEAR
UPDATED DAILY!
''Joe the Plumbers' out in force
McCain-Palin supporters were out in force Thursday in Charleston demonstrating their support for "Joe the Plumbers" across America who will be hurt by Barack Obama's tax hikes. The event took place on the eve of Joe Biden's visit today.

The best debate of the year
An Obama presidency is frightening, but the Bible doesn't warn about him, and Michelle didn't order $400 room service
One of the many downsides of the Internet age -- and there are many, including the ability of people to post anonymous commentary -- is the widespread dissemination of misinformation, much of it downright silly.
No doubt quite a bit of this is being done against John McCain and Sarah Palin, but as a Republican, I tend to get more emails focusing on Barack Obama, or Joe Biden, or even Michelle Obama. The emails always purport to reveal some hidden fact or scandalous tidbit about the individual -- and they are almost always completely untrue.
One of the most widely circulated emails of late paints Obama as someone matching the biblical description of the anti-Christ. Here's part of the email...
According to The Book of Revelations: The Anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40's, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, he will destroy everything.
Frightening, huh? Except it's totally false. The Book of Revelation contains no such description whatsoever, nor does any other reference in the Bible to the anti-Christ.
Then there has been this popular one, which I have received at least five times. Supposedly, Michelle Obama stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in New York and ordered more than $400 worth of room service for an afternoon snack, including such delicacies as caviar, lobsters and champagne. This email even comes with a photo of the bill for the meal signed by Michelle Obama.
Again, completely untrue. This item was actually printed as fact recently in the New York Post, which had to print a hasty retraction when it was revealed that Michelle Obama wasn't even in New York on the date in question.
The problem with these Internet scams is that they detract from those things which are absolutely true and legitimate and should be enough in and of themselves to keep Obama from being elected president.
Forwarded emails have become the devil's playground of falsehoods and misleading claims -- a patriotic essay by David Letterman, an alarm that new U.S. coins omit "In God We Trust," a contest in which Bill Gates and Microsoft are awarding prizes for forwarding an email. They're all completely false.
There is an excellent website called Snopes (www.snopes.com) that specializes in examining Internet claims and email myths. I highly recommend its use for any fact or claim that comes through your email box, especially those being forwarded from one large group to the other.

Teets gets nod from top federal ag official
(Press Release) Agricultural Commissioner candidate J. Michael Teets has received the personal endorsement of a top federal official in the field.
Thomas C. Dorr, Under Secretary for rural development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, announced his support of Teets' candidacy for the state's top agricultural post.
"Mike Teets has the energy and vision necessary to help move West Virginia forward in the 21 st Century," Dorr said. "I have spent my life watching agriculture change, and it's critical that West Virginia have a leader who's ready for the new challenges we face today and in the future. I encourage West Virginia voters to put Mike Teets in a position to help us make their state's Department of Agriculture the best it can be."
Teets said he was humbled by Dorr's support for a number of reasons.
"Tom Dorr knows agriculture from virtually every angle possible," Teets said. "He's run a family farming operation, he's been an officer with the National Corn Growers Association, and he's proudly served his country and our region in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. I will do my best to make him proud as West Virginia's Commissioner of Agriculture."
Teets, who has built his campaign around improving consumer protection and expanding access to farmers' markets and locally grown produce, said he looked forward to working with Dorr and other federal officials to make those plans a reality.
"During my 14 years on the Hardy County Commission I worked with local, state and federal officials to bring safe drinking water to our area and address other challenges," Teets said. "Cooperation will be a hallmark of my administration at all levels."
Teets is in the midst his "It's Time Tour," visiting all 55 West Virginia counties to tell people that 40 years of the incumbent is enough and it's time for a new Commissioner of Agriculture.
The West Virginia Farm Bureau also endorsed Teets for WV Commissioner of Agriculture.
Who's pushing alarmist stories of problems with voting in West Virginia?
Political observers are buzzing about who is behind the spate of recent news stories concerning alleged problems with ESS voting machines in West Virginia, which a handful of voters claim kept switching their touch screen votes from Democrats to Republicans.
With absolutely no evidence that a single voter did not end up voting exactly for the candidates for whom they intended to vote, the issue is hardly worth the many inches of space that have been devoted to it.
Many fingers are pointing at supporters of Attorney General Darrell McGraw, who is obviously running scared in this election. But there are others with motivation to keep the issue front and center, not for clean election purposes, but for political reasons. Developing...
