Steele at GOP's 6/21 convention
Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele will be the keynote speaker at the West Virginia Republican Party's summer convention June 21 in Flatwoods. Details can be found in the graphic at left.
Steele is the chairman of GOPAC and a former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, having been elected on the same ticket as Governor Robert L. Ehrlich in 2002. He is the first African American to serve in a Maryland state-wide office and the first Republican lieutenant governor in the state since the position was created.
Steele was, at the time he held the lieutenant governor position, the highest-ranking elected African American Republican in the United States.

The New York Times on Tuesday published a column by editorial board member Dorothy Samuels headlined, "The Selling of the Judiciary: Campaign Cash ‘in the Courtroom." You can pretty much take it from there in figuring out her angle, and yes, she touches on the West Virginia Supreme Court controversy, repeating the ridiculous assertation that Justice Brent Benjamin cast "the deciding vote" in the Caperton-Massey case.
I wish someone would explain to me -- when three justices vote one way, and two vote the other -- how anyone has cast a "deciding" vote.
How was Benjamin's vote any more deciding than the other two justices who voted with him?
It is worth noting that before joining The New York Times, Ms. Samuels served for four years as executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union. Nuf said.
OK, I'll say more. She concludes that the solution to the issue is either public financing, or creating a different recusal method.
She declines to suggest a third solution, more effective than either of hers -- not buying into the political spin of trial lawyers and unions pushing a manufactured controversy for political gain.

You, too, deserve a degree for work history and life experience!
Having Fun With Mojo
Hey kids! Mojo here! Miss me? I missed me, too! But I had a very good reason for being gone so long! You'll understand when I explain!
As you know, West Virginia University has had for a long time a program that lets you earn a degree based on your work history or your life experience! But not everyone knew you could even get an MBA and other big degrees that way!
So, in fairness, I decided to expand the program to make it available to more West Virginians! When I told President Garrison what I was going to do, he was very excited, and said he wanted to help! I said, OK!
Here are some of the new degrees from WVU we've come up with so far:
* Masters Degree in Lobbying. Qualification: Registered lobbyist for at least 10 years, five laws passed based on your efforts.
* Doctorate Degree in Political Consulting. Qualification: For Democrat consultants, eight years experience, 50 victories. For Republican consultants, 12 years experience, two victories.
* Bachelor of Connections. Qualifications:
Served in two administrations, or been invited to 20 consecutive Governor's Christmas Parties. (President Garrison pushed hard for that one.)
* Masters Degree in Relativity. Qualifications: Son or daughter of high office holder, or married at least three years to son or daughter of high office holder.
* Doctorate Degree in Shilling. Qualifications: Open to reporters only. Print reporters, at least 25 articles every six months for three years favorable to Democratic Party or its public officials. Extra credit awarded for emphasis on Robert C. Byrd.  Electronic media, one softball interview a week for six months with the governor.
* Bachelor of Influence. Qualifications: One hundred thousand dollars a year in donations to incumbent officeholders, or providing monthly use of company helicopter, airplane or yacht to governor, Speaker of the House, Senate president, or Oshel Craigo.
That's what we have so far, kids! But we're working on more! Check back soon!
