Russ Weeks: An American Life
WVU scandal all behind us; nothing more to see here!
Having Fun With Mojo
Hey kids! Mojo here! Well, the excitement's over at West Virginia University! Provosts and deans have been punished, studies have been done, the faculty has spoken, and finally, the president himself has resigned! That pretty much wraps it all up!
I did hate to see Mike resign! For a while, I defended him quite aggressively! But then, you know what? I checked my approval ratings! They said it was time for Mike to go!
I still don't think it had to happen like that, and I still blame that OUT OF STATE newspaper for stirring up all the fuss! If they hadn't started asking a bunch of nosey questions, no one would even know that Heather didn't have that darned degree in the first place! Then, the gang at WVU wouldn't have had to make one up for her!
But, what's done is done, and I really like seeing headlines that say things like, "Healing begins at WVU." That's the spin, er, message I'm trying to put out there! It's all over! There's nothing more to see here! There's no one else to be held accountable!
What more do some people want? After all, everyone who's to blame has been given a different title! A couple of them even had a title or two taken away from them! That's pretty harsh punishment if you ask me! What do some people want? Real resignations? Give me a break!
The only person left to find a new job for at WVU is Mike and trust me, that will happen! He's done a great job, and we can't afford to lose him!
Besides, you know what happens when people really get kicked out and lose their salaries? They decide they want to start talking! And the last thing we need is any more talk about this whole mess! I don't usually agree with much of what John Unger says, but I sure do agree with him when he says we need less politics when it comes to WVU!
So let the healing begin! Quit asking any more questions! No one involved in this thing is going to give you any answers anyway! They're too busy doing their jobs at WVU!
Democrats: 'We need a Dem president to assure gay rights'
One joint statement by national Democrat leaders that Gov. Joe Manchin somehow missed out on was the statement last week by Democrat National Committee Chairman Howard Dean,  Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank and Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin  declaring June "Gay Pride Month" and supporting a resolution favoring homosexual marriage.
After issuing joint statements with Dean, Nancy Pelosi and others regarding the presidential race, Mojo somehow managed to skip this one.
Dean, Frank and Baldwin said the nation needs to support gay and lesbian marriage, and anti-discrimination laws against gays, and added, "To do all of these things we need to put a Democrat in the White House..."
So, when the governor is out and about campaigning for Barack Obama this summer and fall, remember, one of the main reasons to vote Democrat is to celebrate "the contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans and their families make to our society..." as the press release put it, and to "stand proudly with the LGBT community..."
Could be the governor was busy and missed the phone call from Dean asking him to join in on the press release. No matter. He and Barack will have plenty of time to talk about it between now and November.
Beth Walker, candidate for West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, will hold a grand opening for her campaign’s statewide headquarters tonight from 5- 7 p.m.
The office, which is located at 191 Summer Street in downtown Charleston, will serve as the main headquarters for the campaign.

Gearheart points out Limbaugh's trashing of Rahall's comments
Rush Limbaugh recently blasted West Virginia Congressman Nick Rahall for his comment that, “We simply cannot drill our way to lower prices at the pump.”
After that comment, Limbaugh said on his May 23rd show, ”How in the world can you say that there’s no evidence that drilling will help reduce price?  We simply cannot drill our way to lower prices at the pump? Okay, fine. Then let’s shut down all of the drilling that we’re doing in this country.  Let’s really go safe. Let’s really be environmentally correct.  Let’s shut down every oil well, since it doesn’t matter, since our own production doesn’t matter.  This is absurd…”
Gearheart, the GOP candidate taking on Rahall, said, "I believe that all viable energy sources are important... Does Mr. Rahall’s disdain for domestic production of one fossil fuel, oil, extend to another, coal?"
Weeks awaits response to pay raise lawsuit
The clerk of the West Virginia Supreme Court last week sent Russ Weeks the Notice of Official Receipt of his lawsuit challenging the pay raise passed by the State Legislature and signed by Gov. Joe Manchin earier this year.
The next step usually is for the Court to ask the defendants to respond.
Weeks is suing the governor and the Legislature for passing a pay raise bill that will be effective even for members of the State Senate who will not stand for election before the raise takes effect, as well as over per diem increases that were made retroactive, which Weeks says is contrary to the state constitution.
