Paid for by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce
Sen. Robert C. Byrd's defense of his service in the Senate in spite of his advancing age was interesting in that he felt moved to remark on the subject. The fact is, Byrd's age and ability to serve was a legitimate issue in the 2006 campaign. But
West Virginia voters, knowing full well Byrd's age and limitations, chose to send him back for another six-year term. The seat belongs to him until 2012, good health or bad. Hoppy Kercheval has a good take on this in his commentary today.
Mollohan earmarks land adjacent
to his property
Congressman Alan Mollohan is at it again, asking for a $1 million earmark request that would allow the Interior Department to expand a wilderness area neighboring properties the Congressman owns.
The move would drive up the price of the land in question, as well as Mollohan's own property.
An article in Roll Call newspaper spells it all out.
Camp Lincoln ready for its 35th year in WV
Camp Lincoln, the longtime summer staple that teaches youngsters about government and politics, kicks off its 35th Annual Conservative Youth Leadership Camp on July 1 and concludes on July 7.
The camp continues a tradition of educating young people on the two-party system and the building of their leadership skills.  Campers from the ages of 14-18 are exposed to a variety of seminars ranging from U.S. history and government through activism, as well as hands-on experiences related to the political process.
Athletic competition and games, spiritual development and participation in a mock model congress highlight a week that the participants never forget.  To help ensure the camp's success, contact Peggy or Doc Bahnsen at 304.387.2199 or email them at pegbahnsen@juno.com or docbahnsen@juno.com.
President coming to Martinsburg July 4
President Bush is returning to West Virginia for the Fourth of July, this time visiting Martinsburg in the Eastern Panhandle.
Details of the visit were not being released yet by White House officials.
West Virginia has been a favorite July 4th visit for the President since he took office, with appearances in Ripley, Charleston and Morgantown in recent years.
More details are expected on Monday.
