McGraw at the fair

Nominate your Republican of the Year
Attorney General Darrell McGraw is at it again, using taxpayer-funded items as political handouts at county fairs. These two pictures were taken Tuesday at the Putnam County Fair, where "Consumer Protection" and "Consumer Fraud" items were being handed out along with campaign materials from Democrat candidates. In 2002, when caught using an official Attorney General fair display as a focal point for handing out Democrat campaign materials, McGraw apologized in a column by The Charleston Gazette's Fanny Seiler. It seems his regret was short-lived.
Weeks urges Manchin to require Health Care revisions be changed
Russ Weeks, a Beckley native and Republican candidate for governor, Wednesday called on Gov. Joe Manchin to reject proposed changes to the standards West Virginia hospitals must follow when offering cardiac catheterization services until hospitals like Raleigh General Hospital are more fairly represented.
The revisions on which Manchin must decide by Friday do not permit hospitals like RGH to provide full scale heart services, including both diagnostic and therapeutic catheterizations, if they are within an hour of a facility already offering such services. The new standards indicate RGH is only 58 minutes from CAMC in Charleston, thereby precluding RCG from upgrading its services.
“Raleigh General might be 58 minutes from CAMC with a police escort or in the wee hours of the morning,” said Weeks. “But with five stop lights and heavy traffic during the day, it often takes at least ten minutes just to travel from the Raleigh General emergency room to the entrance of the Turnpike." Weeks said the people of southern West Virginia deserve to enjoy the benefits of the best medical care they can receive, but the recommendations of the Health Care Authority don’t meet those needs.
