Manchin-DuPont topic
of Yahoo Finance group
The Joe Manchin-DuPont scandal has been a hot and heavy subject on th e Yahoo Finance discussion board, with one poster saying, "...West Virginians remained fixed on another Joe. This Joe is increasingly tarred by the growing DuPont scandal. This Joe, also a politician, is Joe Manchin running for relection as West Virginia Governor. Absence of key Dems keeps interim schedule light
Leading up to this week's legislative interim meetings in Charleston, many lawmakers were expressing surprise at how light their schedules were in regard to committee meetings scheduled for the Sunday-Tuesday session.
Turns out the reason the lifting is so light this month is because key Senate committee chairs are out in Denver, participating in the festivities at the Democratic National Convention, along with Joe Manchin, Jay Rockefeller and the rest of the gang.
Senators in Denver this week as delegates are Senate Judiciary chair Sen. Jeff Kessler, Energy chair Jon Blair Hunter,
interim Education subcommittee chair Erik Wells, and Confirmations chair Shirley Love. Others may be there as guests. Factor in the absence of Manchin and his chief of staff, Larry Puccio, and other key administration figures, and it's no wonder the agenda for interims was kept lighter than usual.
What is ironic is that when the state GOP presidential convention conflicted with the regular session back in February, some Republicans were tepid about asking Dems for schedule adjustments so GOP lawmakers could attend the convention -- a courtesy the Dems are not hesitant to extend to themselves.

(Press Release) Rep. Shelley Moore Capito has been working tirelessly to get Congress to act now and pass a comprehensive energy plan for America. She called on Congress to remain in session during the current recess and has been spending the last three weeks visiting with business leaders, energy producers, non-profits groups and families who are being hurt by the high cost of gasoline. The Capito campaign launched a new website www.wvenergyfirst.com as part of its efforts to get citizens to sign the West Virginia Energy Action Petition that challenges House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to call Congress back into session.
In May, Rep. Capito introduced the Clean Coal-Derived Fuels for Energy Security Act that mandates the United States produce 6 billion gallons of coal-to-liquid fuel by 2022. In July, she joined a bi-partisan working group of 11 Democrats and 11 Republicans to craft the National, Conservation, Environment and Energy Independence Act. This bill seeks to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by increasing the domestic production of oil, invests in coal and renewable energy sources, promotes conservation and provides home heating assistance to low income families.
In an effort to increase public awareness and inform voters of Rep. Capito's efforts, the Capito for Congress campaign on Monday launched a new advertising campaign with two ads that highlight key elements of both bills. The ads Briefing and Kryptonite are airing on network and cable throughout the district.
"These ads are designed to increase public pressure on Congress to act by passing a bi-partisan plan that will make America energy independent and work to lower the cost of gasoline. The ads feature Rep. Capito, and give her another opportunity to share directly with constituents her plans to solve our energy crisis," remarked Capito Campaign Spokesman Kent Gates.
