Weeks: 'Unlike Manchin, I'm proud to back a pro-life party and candidate'

Russ Weeks today applauded the Republican National Committee for adopting its strongest statement yet on the sanctity of life and the commitment to ending abortion.
Weeks, the Republican candidate for governor, pointed out that unlike his opponent, he can wholeheartedly support the platform of his party and the beliefs of his party’s nominee for president.
“Governor Manchin claims to be pro-life, and yet he is aggressively trying to elect the radically pro-choice Barack Obama president,” said Weeks.
In remarks to the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, Manchin said, “We need a new leader for new times. Barack Obama is the only candidate in this race who has captured our nation's hopes for the kind of change we so desperately need. Let's do what's right for America and elect Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.”
“By embracing Barack Obama and urging his fellow West Virginians to elect him, Governor Manchin is turning his back on the values of families across our state,” said Weeks. “I am proud to support John McCain – a fellow Navy veteran, and a lifelong conservative on issues like abortion. My values, and my pro-life beliefs, would never allow me to advocate the election of someone for president who did not share those values. Apparently, Governor Manchin does not feel the same way.”
The Republican Party Platform Committee, meeting in Minneapolis on Wednesday, adopted as part of its platform a statement saying, “We assert the inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.
"We support a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it.
"We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity and dignity of innocent human life.”
Weeks will be attending the Republican convention in St. Paul next week.
Clinton remarks make little sense
During his remarks in Denver on Wednesday, Bill Clinton said that as he traveled the country over the last few months, he became convinced that Barack Obama is the right person to be the next president of the United States. So... why was he campaigning for Hillary all that time? Otherwise, Clinton lived up to expectations, saying Obama would be a good president, if he is a president like Clinton was.
The photo at right shows construction on the set at Invesco Field in Denver where Barack Obama will make his
acceptance speech tonight as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
They must be kidding, right?
Is Tim Donaghy refereeing this campaign? Is Pete Rose betting on it? Few other explanations make sense as to why Barack and the Dems are so willingly playing into John McCain's hands.
McCain, of course, has been painting Obama as a celebrity, a rock star who's all hype but no substance. Now they're building a set for him that tries to portray him as some kind of Greek god?
The Republican National Committee, as could be expected, is having a field day. The RNC issued a press release late Wednesday advising reporters to wear togas, and even offered some illustrations of various styles of robes that might be considered.
The RNC release says, "Today, workers at Invesco Field are putting the final touches on the newest wonder of the modern political world -- The Temple of Obama (“The Barackopolis”). It is upon this pulpit that Barack Obama will tomorrow night address thousands of screaming, adoring fans. There may be some confusion among the press about the venue and appropriate dress code for Barack Obama's big speech ... The toga may have gone out of style centuries ago, but after Obama's temple speech tomorrow night, they’re sure to be flying off the racks."
