Storm puts GOP convention in doubt
The impending approach of Hurricane Gustav led Sen. John McCain and the RNC to curtail activities at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Receptions on Sunday went on as planned, although they were noticeably subdued. Above, replicas of Air Force One and the White House were on display at a delegation welcome event at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Inset, GOP gubernatorial candidate Russ Weeks poses with West Virginia Wesleyan Professor Robert Rupp at the event. Below, Dominion sponsored a reception for West Virginia delegates featuring a performance by Circus Jeventas, a performing arts youth circus in St. Paul. Inset, state GOP Chair Doug McKinney discusses politics with Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito as convention delegate Harry Boggs of Mineral County looks on. Capito said she agreed with the decision to cut back convention activities. The Republican Gazette will provide daily coverage of the convention, however it unfolds.
