More than 150 supporters packed a banquet hall at the Raleigh County Community Center Tuesday night for a "Rock'n'Roll Party for Russ Weeks," raising several thousand dollars for the GOP gubernatorial candidate.
In addition to Weeks, those in attendance heard from state Republican Chairman Doug McKinney, Attorney General candidate Dan Greear, and McCain-Palin state director Ben Beakes, who served as master of ceremonies for the event.
The enthusiastic audience enjoyed several door prizes during the evening presented by former Raleigh County GOP Chairman Joe Long, who, along with his wife, Julia, helped organize the event. The favorite prize was a gag framed MBA degree from the "University of Mojo."
Weeks promised the crowd that if elected governor, he would return honesty, integrity and accountability to the office, and deal more effectively with the various problems facing the state, which continue to push West Virginia at or near the bottom in national economic rankings.
Weeks is holding a press conference later this morning to discuss various developments in his campaign.

Third-tier choice Kaine at JJ dinner
After vocally expressing high hopes of landing either Barack Obama or Joe Biden -- or at least Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton -- state Dems have settled for Mojo buddy and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine as the speaker for their annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner. As the Gazette's Phil Kabler wrote, it's like "a kid getting clothes for a Christmas. present."
