Delegates thrilled with visit by Cindy McCain and Laura Bush
Delegates to the Republican National Convention were thrilled to welcome First Lady Laura Bush and future First Lady Cindy McCain on the opening day of the Republican National Convention Monday. Both women made a plea for assistance to the victims of Hurricane Gustav, but their appearance also allowed delegates to release some of the pent-up energy that has been building due to the curtailed schedule
of convention events because of the dangers posed by Gustav.
The convention delegates engaged in only perfunctory and necessary party business on Monday, but indications late in the day were that typical convention activity was likely to resume on Tuesday due to the dissipation of the hurricane and the likely passing of the danger. For complete convention coverage, check back with The Republican Gazette on Wednesday.
Above, First Lady Laura Bush, right, and Cindy McCain addressed delegates to the Republican National Convention on Monday, urging everyone to contribute to the various relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Gustav. Delegates greeted the pair with a rousing standing ovation. Below, the West Virginia delegates are shown watching the proceedings on Monday, which promised to return to a full schedule on Tuesday.
