Weeks wins Farm Bureau endorsement over Manchin
Russ Weeks, the Republican candidate for governor, has won the endorsement of the West Virginia Farm Bureau over his opponent, Gov. Joe Manchin.
Weeks was notified of the endorsement by state Farm Bureau President Charles Wilfong. The endorsement by the organization's PAC came with a $1,000 contribution to the Weeks campaign.
"I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Farm Bureau," said Weeks. "I have long fought for property rights
and other issues important to the organization, and I'll continue that fight as governor."
Farm Bureau is an organization of people dedicated to improving the quality of their lives and the lives of those who depend on them. They focus on feeding families, the environment, educating children and speaking out on issues of concern. It is the organization’s goal to provide leadership, education, information, training and economic services to enhance the quality of life of Farm Bureau members.

Weeks tells Manchin to stay out of our homes, cars
Republican gubernatorial candidate Russ Weeks said today that Gov. Joe Manchin’s stated intention to ban talking on cell phones while driving represents a misguided set of priorities.
“West Virginia is one of the poorest states in the nation economically. We have serious needs on issues like better jobs, health care, and education. But what does our governor say the next legislative session should focus on? Banning the use of cell phones while driving,” said Weeks. “It’s nothing but a smokescreen to avoid the real problems facing our state.”
Weeks says he has serious philosophical differences with the governor’s penchant for using the government for social engineering, such as his past comments about taxing “bad foods” to discourage consumption of what he deems unhealthy items.
“For a guy who a lot of people think is a conservative, Joe Manchin has no problem injecting government into our lives,” said Weeks. “We need more freedoms and less government intrusion. People need to be encouraged to drive safely and use wisdom when it comes to driving and cell phones. But we don’t need more laws criminalizing innocent behavior.”
Weeks said Manchin’s focus on cell phones represents a governor who is already out of fresh ideas, and who has no meaningful agenda for another term in office.
“Obviously, the governor is struggling for something relevant to present to the voters of West Virginia,” said Weeks. “This one misses the mark.”
(Press Release) Attorney General Candidate Dan Greear has asked Darrell McGraw to explain his on-again, off-again fundraiser scheduled for September 30th at the Wheeling law firm of Wexler, Toriseva. Toriseva is currently in line for a million-dollar payday from a no-bid McGraw settlement that was delayed for at least 30 days in Ohio County Circuit Court.
“Is another one of McGraw’s campaign contributors hosting a fundraiser for Darrell?” Greear asked. “Just two weeks ago, Deputy AG Fran Hughes lost her cool during a hearing in Ohio County

Manchin has a lot riding on WVU fortunes
This weekend's WVU - Marshall game couldn't come at a worse time for Mountaineer supporters, head coach Bill Stewart, or, most importantly of all, Gov. Joe Manchin.
Going into the game with a meager 1-2 record against a hot Thundering Herd team, the game serves as another bitter reminder to WVU fans that their governor forced this matchup upon them.
With WVU reeling so far under new coach Stewart, the whole scenario also reminds everyone that Stewart -- a great guy on a personal level by all accounts -- was basically named head coach in the euphoria of the big bowl victory last year, but without a whole lot of thought. Again, Manchin's heavy hand was right in the middle of that decision, too.
So now, Marshall finds itself in a position to make the whole WVU season a disaster, while Mojo watches -- and no doubt winces -- from the sidelines.
